My Earliest Memory #217

Just an infant.
Being carried to a bassinet.
A woman placing me down next to a window.
The vague visions of the ceiling while being cradled in her arms.
And the earliest craving I can recall of warmth and protection
feeling of detachment.
She did not cover me and I cried.
No one came, to teach me.
I slept.

My Earliest Memory #216

My baptism.
12 weeks old.
Two ‘snapshot’ memories.
My head turned and I focused on the white, hour glass font; very fuzzy.
I was held farther from it.
The sound in my ears like ocean.
Next one from above the font.
Head turn and I focused on the round top of the font.
That image is much sharper.
I’m 62 now.

My Earliest Memory #212

I have two earliest memories, both from when I was about three or four.

I was in kindergarten.
A kid who lived next door to me – and was a year older – was playing with other kids of her age.
I thought of her as my best friend so I felt jealous and spied on them from under a door.
Another kid from our building, same age as me, was trying to get me to play with her instead, but I ignored her.
Poor girl.

The second one: walking home from kindergarten with my father.
We were on top of a small slope when we saw a rainbow over our house.
Father explained to me what a rainbow is.
